Pledging to uphold the spirit and sanctity of the Constitution of India, National Conference Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana today paid tributes to its architect Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar for setting path of democracy, equality and social justice for the greatest democracy of the world.
Speaking at a candle-light function organised by SC ST OBC Confederation, President, Mr RK Kalsotra at Ambedkar Chowk this evening, Mr Rana who was the Chief Guest on the occasion described Baba Saheb as a great visionary and legendary leader, who worked tirelessly to foster egalitarian society and shed caste discrimination across the country. He recalled the contribution of the founder of the Constitution towards well being of the people in general and weaker sections of the society in particular.
Accompanied by Babu Ram Paul, Chairperson, National Conference SC/OBC Cell, Dharamveer Singh Jamwal,, Anil Dhar,, Vijay Lochan, Tarsem Khullar, Mr Rana said “if Mahatma Gandhi is immortal as Father of the Nation, Baba Saheb Ambedkar will also be remembered as Father of Indian Democracy”, adding that the great visionary ensured that the fruits of democracy reach each segment of Indian society. He said the ideology of the legendary leader is humane, which is needed to be emulated and carried forward by working towards creating a society based on equality and social justice.
Mr Rana said Baba Saheb has left an indelible mark by his contribution to ameliorate the lot of down trodden and weaker segments of the society. His unflinching commitment towards social justice brought about a revolutionary transformation in Indian social order and helped in carving a society with opportunities for all, he added.
The Provincial President said best tribute to the great leader would be to imbibe the spirit of inclusiveness which alone can lead the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity. He said Baba Saheb cannot be confined in the myopic prism of party lines, as he belonged to India, lived for India and envisioned great future for India.
Mr. Raman Bhalla, former Minister and senior Congress leader also participated in the candle light march.
Speaking on the occasion, Babu Ram Pal recalled the struggle and contribution of Baba Sahib in evolution of democracy and framing up of Indian Constitution. He said efforts of Baba Sahib hugely helped in creating opportunities in every sphere of activity for the weaker sections, which made a big turnaround the politico-social landscape of India.
He urged the people to emulate the spirit of togetherness and shun the tendencies of hatred and intolerance for making India a better place to live. He called for sincere and earnest efforts to pass on the message of Dr Ambedkar to posterity by upholding the principles he stood for all his life.
Among others who were present on the occasion included S. Nirmal Singh, Satpal Sagotra, Surjit Kumar Dabotra, Bishan Dass, Baldev Raj Nargotra, Vijay Kumar and others.
